How to read this comparison

Every QuillBot figure on this page comes from QuillBot's own help center, tool pages and store listings, read on 1 November 2026. QuillBot's site refuses some automated page requests, so a few details were taken from search-engine copies of its official pages. When QuillBot's pages disagree with each other, as they do on the free paraphrasing limit (100 or 125 words), the table says so. Prices and limits change often, so check the QuillBot pricing page before you pay.

Who should use QuillBot

QuillBot suits you if:

  • You paraphrase English all day. Its paraphraser, synonym control, Flow editor and Premium modes are built for that, and the extension works inside Google Docs and your browser.
  • You want a Humanizer or custom modes. These are Premium features. AdeptWrite offers an AI Humanizer too, but QuillBot's mode library is larger.
  • You work in short passages. A 125-word cap is not a problem if you paraphrase one or two sentences at a time.
  • You are happy to pay. At $8.33 a month on the annual plan, Premium is reasonable for professional writers.

Who should use AdeptWrite

AdeptWrite suits you if:

  • You want every mode free. The Paraphrasing Tool offers Standard, Formal, Casual, Academic, Creative, Shorten and Expand to everyone, without an account.
  • You paste whole paragraphs. Runs are limited by characters, not by a 125-word cap, so a full paragraph or short section fits in one run.
  • You need more than paraphrasing. The Plagiarism Checker, AI Detector, Summarizer, Spell Checker and AI Translator are free and in the same site.
  • You write in several languages. Pages and tools exist in 56 locales, and each language uses its own spelling authority where data exists.
  • You care about what leaves your browser. Text is sent only to produce a result and is not stored or used to train models, as the privacy policy explains.

Where AdeptWrite is limited

Fairness cuts both ways. AdeptWrite is a younger site, with no mobile app and no Google Docs add-on. It has no equivalent of QuillBot's Flow workspace. Free AI tools have daily and per-minute limits that rise on paid plans. The AI Detector gives an estimate, never proof, and the plagiarism checker reports only what it finds in the sources it searched, so a 0% result means no overlap was found there, not that a text is original.

Paraphrasing quality: test it yourself

Neither site publishes an accuracy figure you should trust, and neither do we. The honest test takes two minutes: paste the same 100-word paragraph into both paraphrasers, use the Standard mode in each, and compare meaning, tone and sentence structure. If you use paraphrasing for school or work, read our guide on how to paraphrase and remember that changing words does not remove the need to cite. See paraphrasing vs plagiarism for the rules.

Which should you pick?

Use QuillBot if you want its extension, apps and Premium modes. Use AdeptWrite if you want free modes, longer pastes and several checking tools in one place. Many writers use both: draft with one, then compare the result in the other. Related comparisons: AdeptWrite vs Grammarly and a free QuillBot alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Is QuillBot free?

Yes, with limits. As of 2026-11-01, the free paraphraser accepts 125 words per input, offers two modes and needs no sign-up for most tools. Premium costs $19.95 a month or $99.95 a year. AdeptWrite has no mode paywall for its tools; limits are listed on the pricing page.

Is AdeptWrite better than QuillBot?

It depends on the job. QuillBot has a polished English paraphraser, an extension and apps. AdeptWrite gives all seven paraphrasing modes free, accepts longer pastes and bundles a plagiarism checker, AI detector and translator. Try the same paragraph in both before choosing.

How many words can I paraphrase for free?

QuillBot lets free users paraphrase up to 125 words per input, though some of its pages still say 100. AdeptWrite limits each run by characters instead of words; the tool shows your limit, and you can run longer texts in sections.

Does QuillBot check plagiarism for free?

No. QuillBot lists its Plagiarism Checker as a Premium feature with 25,000 words a month. The AdeptWrite Plagiarism Checker is free, searches open sources, lists each source it searched and states that 0% means no overlap was found there.

Which is better for non-English text?

QuillBot lists 23 languages for its paraphraser, but its grammar checker covers only a few. AdeptWrite uses a text-language selector and, for many languages, a spell checker built on that language’s own authority. Quality varies by language, so test a sample.

Can I use both together?

Yes. A common routine is to paraphrase in one tool, compare the result in the other, then run the final text through a spell checker and a plagiarism check. Always cite the original source, whichever tool rewrote the wording.
