AdeptWrite browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox

The AdeptWrite extension puts a paraphraser, grammar checker, translator and summarizer next to any text you select on the web, and a writing check in the corner of every text box. It is free within daily limits, needs no account, and sends text to adeptwrite.com only when you click an action, never while you read or type.

Selection toolbar
Select three or more words and a small AdeptWrite button appears next to them. Paraphrase in seven modes, check grammar, translate, summarize or humanize without leaving the page.
Replace in place
In email drafts, forms, comment fields and rich editors, Replace puts the result exactly where the selected text was, and your browser’s undo still works. On other pages, copy the result.
Check writing in any text box
A small button in the corner of the text box you are typing in checks grammar with AdeptWrite and spelling with a Hunspell dictionary for your language. Apply suggestions one at a time or all at once.
Spelling that stays in your browser
Download the dictionary for your language once; after that, spelling is checked inside the browser, and that part of the check sends nothing anywhere.
Popup mini editor
The toolbar button opens a small editor with the same tools plus tone changing and sentence rewriting, a word and character count, and a readability score labelled with its formula.
In your language, on your terms
The interface comes in 56 languages, including right-to-left scripts. Choose your default text language and modes, switch single features off, and list the sites where the extension stays silent.

v1.0.0

Privacy in brief

  • Nothing is sent while you read, select or type. Text leaves your browser only when you click an action, and only to adeptwrite.com.
  • The AdeptWrite API processes the text to produce your result and does not store it, write it to logs, sell it or use it to train models.
  • No analytics, ads, tracking or remote code in the extension, and it never runs in password, one-time-code or card-number fields.
  • Settings, the optional sign-in key and downloaded dictionaries stay on your device until you remove them.

Permissions and why they are needed

The extension asks for as little as it can. It talks to one server, adeptwrite.com, and has no permission to read your browsing history.

Read and change data on the sites you visit
Needed to show the selection toolbar and the text-box button where you write, and to put a result back into a text box when you click Replace. The script does nothing until you select text or click into a text box.
adeptwrite.com
The only server the extension contacts: the writing API, your account status when you sign in, and the spelling dictionaries you choose to download.
Context menus
Adds AdeptWrite actions to the right-click menu for selected text.
Storage
Keeps your settings, the optional sign-in key and downloaded dictionaries on your device.
Active tab and scripting
Let the popup read and replace the selection in the tab you are looking at, also in tabs that were open before you installed the extension.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Alt+Shift+W opens the popup.
  • Alt+Shift+C checks the text box you are typing in.
  • Alt+Shift+A shows the actions for the selected text, so the toolbar works without a mouse.

On a Mac the shortcuts use Control+Shift. You can change them on your browser’s extension shortcuts page. Every button in the toolbar, the result card and the issues panel can be reached with the keyboard, and Escape closes them.

Limits

  • AI output can contain mistakes. Read every result before you use it.
  • Google Docs and other editors that draw text on a canvas are not supported; the extension shows a short notice there, and the popup or the editor on adeptwrite.com works instead.
  • Text boxes inside embedded frames are not covered, and the extension cannot run on browser pages, store pages or PDF viewers.
  • Free use has daily limits. Signing in is optional; paid plans on adeptwrite.com raise the limits.
  • Desktop browsers only: Safari and mobile browsers are not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AdeptWrite extension free?

Yes. Every tool in the extension works without an account within the same free daily limits that apply on adeptwrite.com. Signing in is optional: it links the extension to your AdeptWrite account so the limits of your plan apply. The plans and their limits are listed on the pricing page.

Does the extension read the pages I visit?

No. Its script waits on each page and does nothing until you select text or click into a text box. Text is sent to adeptwrite.com only when you click an action such as Paraphrase or Check writing. It never reads password fields and keeps no browsing history.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome 116 or newer, Microsoft Edge 116 or newer and Firefox 140 or newer on desktop computers. Other Chromium-based browsers such as Brave, Opera or Vivaldi can usually load the Chrome version, but they are not tested. Safari and mobile browsers are not supported.

Does it work in Google Docs?

No. Google Docs draws its text on a canvas instead of a normal text box, so extensions cannot read or replace the text reliably. The extension shows a short notice there. Paste the text into the extension popup or into the editor on adeptwrite.com instead.

How can spelling be checked without sending my text?

Spelling uses a Hunspell dictionary for your language. The first time, you choose to download that dictionary from adeptwrite.com; from then on the spelling check runs inside your browser. Grammar suggestions come from the AI on adeptwrite.com, so that part does send the text when you click Check writing.

Can I turn the extension off on some sites?

Yes. Open the extension settings and add the site to Disabled sites, one hostname per line. The toolbar and the text-box button then stay off on that site and its subdomains. You can also switch off the selection toolbar, the text-box assistant or the right-click menu everywhere.
