Privacy policy of the AdeptWrite browser extension

In short: the extension sends text only when you click an action, only to adeptwrite.com, and AdeptWrite keeps no copy of that text. There are no analytics, no ads and no tracking in the extension, and it never runs in password fields.

Last updated:

1. Scope

This policy covers the AdeptWrite browser extension for Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox. The website adeptwrite.com and its API are covered by the AdeptWrite privacy policy, which also applies to the text the extension sends there.

2. What is sent, and when

The extension sends text only after you click an action:

  • Selection toolbar and right-click menu: Paraphrase, Grammar, Translate, Summarize or Humanize sends the text you selected.
  • Check writing: the grammar part sends the content of the text box you asked to check.
  • Popup: Run sends the text in the popup editor.

Each request goes over HTTPS to https://adeptwrite.com/api/v1/run and contains the text, the tool, the mode, the language codes, a header naming the extension version and your browser family (for example adeptwrite-extension/1.0.0 chrome) and, only if you signed in, your extension key. The extension never sends cookies with these requests.

Nothing is sent while you read, select or type. The extension does not send page addresses, page content you did not select, or your browsing history, and it never runs in password, one-time-code or card-number fields.

3. What happens to the text

The AdeptWrite API runs on Cloudflare Workers and passes the text to a language model on Cloudflare Workers AI only to produce your result, which is sent back to your browser. AdeptWrite does not use the text for advertising, profiling or training models, and does not sell or share it. As on the website, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the request and to apply rate limits.

4. Retention

DataKept by AdeptWrite
The text you send and the resultNot kept: processed only while the request runs, never written to a database, file, cache or log
Page addresses, browsing history, keystrokesNever collected
Your IP addressProcessed by Cloudflare for delivery and rate limiting, not stored with any text
Daily usage count (signed-in users only)The number of requests and characters per day on your account, kept to apply your plan's limits and deleted with your account

5. Requests that contain no text

  • Spelling dictionaries: when you choose to download a dictionary, the extension fetches a list of available dictionaries and the dictionary files from adeptwrite.com. After that, spelling is checked inside your browser.
  • Account status: if you signed in, the extension asks adeptwrite.com for your plan and remaining daily runs.
  • Open in AdeptWrite opens the editor on adeptwrite.com with your text in the part of the address after #, which your browser does not send to the server.

6. What is stored on your device

The extension keeps, in your browser's extension storage: your settings (languages, modes, features, theme, disabled sites), the extension key and a short account summary (email address, plan, remaining runs) if you sign in, and the dictionaries you downloaded. It keeps no history of your texts or results; text in the popup is gone when the popup closes. This data is not synced between devices. Signing out, "Delete downloaded dictionaries" in the settings, or removing the extension deletes it.

7. Signing in (optional)

The extension works without an account. If you click Sign in, adeptwrite.com shows a page where you connect the extension to your account; the site then hands the extension a key of the type "extension". The key is stored only on your device and can be revoked at any time on your account's API keys page.

8. Permissions

  • Read and change data on the sites you visit (content script on all sites): shows the selection toolbar and the text-box button where you write and puts a result back when you click Replace. It stays passive until you select text or click into a text box.
  • adeptwrite.com: the only server the extension contacts.
  • Context menus: the AdeptWrite entries in the right-click menu.
  • Storage: your settings, the optional key and downloaded dictionaries on your device.
  • Active tab and scripting: let the popup read and replace the selection in the tab you are looking at, also in tabs that were open before installation.

You can switch the extension off for any site in its settings. Firefox shows the data the extension transmits (website content and messages you choose to send) before installation.

9. What the extension never does

  • No analytics, telemetry, advertising or tracking.
  • No remote code: all of its code ships inside the extension package.
  • No selling, renting or sharing of data. Cloudflare processes requests on AdeptWrite's behalf as described above.
  • No access to your browsing history, bookmarks, downloads or other sites' passwords.

10. Children

The extension is a general writing tool and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

11. Your rights

Because the text you send is not stored, there is no text we could show, correct or delete. Data on your device is under your control (see section 6). For questions about account data, use the contact address below or the contact page. Users in Indonesia are protected by Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection; users elsewhere are protected by their applicable local laws.

12. Changes

When the extension's handling of data changes, this page is updated before the new version is published, and the date at the top changes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AdeptWrite extension see everything I type?

No. The script on each page only notices that you selected text or clicked into a text box so it can show its button. Nothing you type is sent anywhere until you click an action, and password fields are excluded completely.

Where does my text go when I click Paraphrase?

Over HTTPS to the AdeptWrite API on adeptwrite.com, which runs on Cloudflare Workers and uses Cloudflare Workers AI to produce the result. The text is not stored, not logged and not used to train models; only the result comes back to your browser.

How do I delete everything the extension stored?

Sign out and choose “Delete downloaded dictionaries” in the extension settings, or simply remove the extension from your browser. The extension keeps no copy of your texts, so nothing else needs to be deleted. Keys you created can also be revoked on your account’s API keys page.
